Fluent79 is a study aid for practising the speaking section of PTE Academic. We built it to collect as little data as possible. There are no accounts, no logins, and no advertising or analytics SDKs.
Your microphone is used only while you are recording a practice attempt. The audio is transcribed on your device using Apple's Speech framework. Your audio recordings are stored locally on your device and are never uploaded to us or anyone else.
For the Describe Image scoring and the AI-phrased coaching tips, the app sends the transcribed text of your attempt and the practice metrics computed on your device (for example speech rate and the estimated sub-scores) to our scoring server. These requests are identified only by a random device identifier — never your name, email, or Apple ID. We use this data solely to generate your feedback. We do not sell it, use it for advertising, or build a profile from it.
Our scoring server uses Anthropic's Claude API to judge content coverage and phrase coaching tips; the transcript and metrics above are processed by Anthropic for that purpose. Purchases are handled entirely by Apple — we never see or receive your payment details.
Your practice history, recordings, and any real exam scores you log are stored locally on your device. They are removed when you delete an attempt in the app or uninstall it. Requests to our server are processed transiently to return your feedback and are not used to build long-term records about you.
You can decline microphone and speech-recognition permission at any time in iOS Settings (the app cannot score attempts without them). You can delete individual attempts and exam scores inside the app.
Fluent79 is intended for adults preparing for an English-proficiency exam and is not directed at children under 13.
